NDA exam is held twice a year by Union Public Service Commission. This article elucidates detailed NDA Exam Pattern 2018 to help you understand its structure and prepare for it accordingly.

What is NDA Exam?

NDA (National Defense Academy) is a national-level entrance exam for entry into Indian Defense Services like Indian Air Force, Indian Army, and Indian Navy. Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria of NDA can apply for NDA Examination 2018.

NDA Exam Pattern 2018:

Starting your NDA preparations without checking its exam pattern is not a smart move. Knowing NDA exam pattern will help know about negative marking, topics covered, how many marks are divided for each subject, scores pattern, etc.

NDA Exam has two-step selection process- Written Test and SSB interview followed by Intelligence test, physical test and medical test.

Written Exam:

NDA Written Exam has 2 papers

  • Mathematics- 120 questions- 300 marks
  • General Ability- 150 questions- 600 marks

Both papers have 2:30 hours of time duration.

  • NDA Mathematics Question Paper Pattern:

NDA Mathematics Question Paper will have 120 questions of 300 marks, each question will carry 2.5 marks.

  • NDA General Ability Question Paper pattern:

General Ability paper covers 2 subjects-

  • English- 50 questions- 200 marks
  • General Knowledge- 100 questions- 400 marks

SSB interview Pattern- Intelligence and Physical Test

Candidates who successfully qualify the NDA Written test, need to log-in to their respective defense services websites given below:

On these websites, you will find the allotted center for your SSB Interview and its scheduled date.

SSB Interview is a Two-stage Selection process.

Stage I

Candidates will go through different tests in Stage I Selection Process. And they are as follows:

  • Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests:
  • PPDT (Picture Perception and Description Test)

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the merit of their performance in both OIR as well as PPDT tests.

Stage II

Only candidates who qualify the Stage I Selection Process will be allowed to appear for Stage II.

Stage II comprises the following:

  • Interview Round
  • Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks
  • Psychology Tests
  • Conference Round

All of these tests are carried out in the time period of 4 days.

Throughout the SSB interview, each candidate is assessed by an IO (Interviewing Officer), GTO (Group Testing Officer) and the Clinician.

These assessors will assign marks to each candidate based on their performance in respective tests.

Based on the performance in first 3 rounds, Conference Board will accordingly recommend or reject a candidate for entry into Indian Defense Services.
