Justice N. V. Ramana will be the 48th Chief Justice of India
The President of India appointed Justice N. V. Ramana as the 48th Chief Justice of India. He will take the charge after the superannuation of serving Chief Justice S. A. Bobde. On the recommendation of the outgoing CJI President recommended Justice Ramana with effect from 24th April.
Article 124 of the Indian Constitution confers the President of India to appoint CJI.
There are a total of 34 Judges in Supreme Court.
World Health Day
07th April 2021 was observed as World Health Day.
Theme: Let’s build a fairer, healthier World for Everyone
Aim: To educate people and spread awareness among them regarding global health.
The day is celebrated under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Since, 1950 World Health Day is being celebrated to commemorate the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO).
World Health Organization was established in 1948.
World’s Highest Railway Bridge on Chenab River in India
About the Bridge:
Length of the bridge – 1,315 meters
It can withstand earthquakes of magnitude up to eight.
It can also hold the ground after high intensity blasts.
The bridge is situated on the Katra – Banihal 111-km long rail link.
By the year 2022, the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail line is expected to be completed.
The project is significantly connecting the inner (core) Kashmir to the rest of India.
The bridge consists of a lifespan of 120 years.
Locomotives are allowed to reach 100 km per hour speed on the bridge.
India – Japan sign MoU for Academic and Research Cooperation and Exchange
The Union Cabinet has approved the MoU between the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Dept of Space and Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere, Kyoto University, Japan for Academic and Research Cooperation.
INS Sarvekshak on a deployment to Mauritius
A hydrographic survey ship, INS Sarvekshak is on a mission for conducting joint hydrographic surveys along with Mauritius.
About the Ship:
It is a specialized survey ship
It is fitted with indigenous survey equipment (Deep Sea Multi-Beam Echo Sounder, Advanced SONAR scanners, and fully automated and digital survey systems.
It also carries Chetak Helicopter, deployed for extensive surveys.
Mauritius is an important country situated in the Indian Ocean Region. During the mission, Indian Navy personnel shared their knowledge and experience of advanced hydrographic equipment.
Defence Minister of Kazakhstan on a visit to India
After the Defense Minister of South Korea, the Defence Minister of Kazakhstan will be visiting India. He will travel to majorly three cities, Jodhpur, Agra, and New Delhi, and meet officials of the Ministry of Defence.
Defence Minister of India Rajanath Singh will conduct a bilateral meeting with Lt Gen Nurlan Yermekbayev.

India is one of the early countries to recognize Kazakhstan as a country after the disintegration of the erstwhile USSR and to establish diplomatic relations in 1992.
Armies of India and Kazakhstan conduct KAZIND military exercise. The exercise is mainly focused on counter – terrorism operations.
