Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) collaborated with Amazon
Amazon Web Services and Ministry of Information and Technology have collaborated to set up a Quantum Computing Applications Lab in India. It will be the first of its kind lab that will support the Central Government’s Mission ‘National Mission on Quantum Technologies & Application (NM-QTA). Amazon Web Services will provide hosting, technical and programmatic support.
Objectives of lab
- The lab will accelerate research and development in Quantum Computing.
- It will enable new discoveries in the field of Quantum Computing.
National Mission on Quantum Technologies & Application (NM-QTA)
The mission was announced in the Union Budget 2020-21.
The budget declared for the project is INR 8000 Crore.
The five-year project will be implemented by the Department of Science and Technology.

Amazon has launched ‘Amazon Global Selling Propel (AGSP) program to support early-stage start-ups to take their products and services up to a global level.
Amazon has collaborated with Startup India, Sequoia Capital India, and Fireside Ventures.

MoRTH & DRDO signed MoU to cooperate on sustainable Geo-Hazard Management
Ministry of Road and Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have collaborated to cooperate on sustainable Geo-Hazard management and in the field of technical exchange by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The primary objective of the MoU is to ensure the safety of road travelers on National Highways during landslides and other natural calamities.
Defence Geo-Informatics Research Establishment (DGRE), a DRDO governed laboratory, will help the ministry plan and design avalanche, landslide control structures to provide all-weather connectivity to remote and snowbound areas.

First India – European Union Intellectual Property Dialogue 2021
To discuss the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues, the European Union Commission and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) held the first India – European Union IPR Dialogue 2021. The dialogue was co-chaired by Ravinder (Joint Secretary, DPIIT) and Carlo Pettinato (Head of Unit Investment & IP, Director General Trade, EU).
The dialogue’s main aim was to strengthen the relation between both economies further and enhance cooperation in the field of IPR.
World Economic Forum released the Global Risks Report 2021
The 16th Edition of Global Risks Report 2021 was released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The report is based on Global Risks Perception Survey (GRPS). The survey is conducted by 650 members of WEFs.
The report was released before the virtual Davos Agenda to be conducted between 25th – 29th January 2021. The report will help Government and other International communities to be prepare during times of crisis.
Extreme Weather, Climate Action Failure, and Human Environmental Damage are the top three very likely risks to happen in the next ten years. Infectious Diseases, Climate Action Failure, and Weapons of Mass Destruction are the top three impacts likely to happen.

Additional Charge of AYUSH Ministry to Union Minister of Sports Kiren Rijiju
On the prime minister’s advice, President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju with Additional Charge of the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) as Shripad Yesso Naik is hospitalized following his road accident.
At present, Kiren Rijiju is also serving as a Minister of State of Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of State of Minority Affairs.
Indigenous Stent and Device for Healing of Hole in Heart
Department of Science and Technology (DST) has declared that India is about to access India’s 1st Indigenous flow diverter stent. This will lead to taking blood away from the ballooning of arteries in the brain. Another device will promote the better and fast healing of the hole in the heart.
Sree Chitra Tirumal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has entered into an agreement with Biorad Medisystem, Pune for the procurement of the Stent and Device and Technology Transfer. The Stent and Device were developed in association with National Aerospace Laboratories, Bengaluru (CSIR-NAL).

42nd Kokborok Day is observed on 19th January
42nd Kokborok Day is observed in Tripura. Kokborok is the official language of the state of Tripura. The state official language status was given to Kokborok by the state government in the year 1979. It is a Sino-Tibetan language generally spoken by the Borok people of Tripura and people residing in some Bangladesh areas.
Note: The language is not listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.
Kokborok= ‘Kok’ means verbal; Borok means human.
