A new National Security Directive has been approved by the Cabinet Committee

 

The central government is in mood to undertake an information security audit of the networks of telecom operators to stop the exploitation of the consumers.

Audits will be helpful to analyse backdoor or trapdoor vulnerabilities in networks

Such vulnerabilities are basically a kind of bug that helps network operators to breach the privacy by allowing them to listen in or collect personal data

National Security Directive-

  • It will classify telecom networks and their products in trusted and non-trusted category
  • National Security Committee on Telecom will make the decision
  • Member- Dy National Security Advisor (Head), members from different departments, experts from different fields and two members from the telecom industry.
  • Designated Authority=National Cyber Security Coordinator

Significance of the move-

  • Various Chinese companies are under scrutiny in other countries thus, effective monitoring and control will be easily done.
  • Chinese equipment are under scrutiny which will force vendors to skip them and use non-Chinese or Indian equipment

Union Cabinet to scrutinize the effective implementation of reservation in student’s admission in IIT

 

In June 2020, an eight member committee was setup under the Director of IIT Delhi to find out effective implementation of reservation in faculty recruitment and in students entrance (admission).

The committee provided its recommendation as follows:

  • IIT should be involved in the list of Institutions of Excellence.
  • Reservation for candidates coming under EWS should be restricted to Assistant Professor Grade 1 & 2.
  • If Reserved Vacancy not filled in a particular year, deserved it.
  • Conduct of special recruitment drives.

 

 

Young Champions of the Earth Prize 2020

 

Young Champions of the Earth is provided by the United Nations Environment Programme. The award becomes Important for us because among the 7 winners, there is an Indian Entrepreneur, Vidyut Mohan (Founder of Social Enterprise TAKACHAR.

About the Young Champions of the Earth Prize:

  • For the first time the award was given in 2017
  • Individuals within age group 18-30 are shortlisted for their contribution to create potential positive environmental impact.
  • Winner gets prize money USD 10000
  • Invitation for high level UN conference.

TAKACHAR-

  • Prevents burning of waste farm residues and helps them to convert it into value added chemicals
  • Helps to gain extra income to the farmers

  • Promotes private sector for sustainable use of natural resources.

15th Session of Intergovernmental Committee was held online in which the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was increased. The list was initialized in 2008.
