Delhi-Most Polluted Capital, India-Third most polluted country


A Swiss Air Quality Technology Company has released its report known as Global Air Pollution. The company possesses a specialty in protection against airborne pollutants and developing a product to monitor air quality and to develop air cleaning products.

Highlights of the report:

Delhi is the most polluted capital in the world.

India has improved its annual PM2.5 levels as compared to the previous year.

Situation of neighboring countries: Bangladesh and Pakistan are some of the worst-performing countries. Also, China has deteriorated its pollution level and scaled up from 14th position to 11th position.

Even, the most polluted city in the world is Hotan, China (110 micros. g/m3), and followed by Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Total of 106 countries has been surveyed of which 84% of countries have registered improvement. The major reason behind this improvement is Corona Virus Lockdown.




Cabinet approved to set up Development Finance Institution


The Union Cabinet has approved to set up the Development Finance Institution.

(DFI) which was announced in the 2021-22 budget by the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The DFI will clear the way for dedicated government owned infrastructure financier.

What will happen now?

  1. Govt can leverage big sum from the market to fund infrastructure projects
  2. Govt will provide tax saving grant of Rs 5000 Cr
  3. DFIs will be fully govt owned at the initial stage and gradually govt’s share will reduce to 26%
  4. Funds invested in DFIs will be tax exempted

DFIs are of following categories:

  1. National Development Banks
  2. Sectoral Financial Institutions
  3. Investment Institution
  4. State Institution




Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020


The upper house has passed the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The bill increases the abortion time period. The original Medical Termination of Pregnancy Bill came into existence in 1971.

Current Scenario:

Opinion of a single doctor is mandatory if the abortion is done within 12 weeks of conception

Opinion of two doctors is necessary if the abortion is done between 12 to 20 weeks of conception.

Changes enumerated in the bill:

The bill excludes the clause of having an opinion of two doctors for abortion between 12 to 20 weeks of conception, and adds the provision to have two doctor’s opinions between 20 to 24 weeks of conception.

If in a case of substantial fetal abnormalities, the opinion of State-level Medical Board is mandatory to terminate the pregnancy after 24 weeks.


India launched Nuclear Missile Tracking Vessel VC 11184


The Indian Navy has commissioned the Ocean Surveillance and Nuclear Missile Tracking Vessel named INS Dhruv. The ship was originally commissioned quietly by the Navy in Oct 2020. It was built at Vishakhapatnam by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. Under the Make India Campaign. The moment it launched, India becomes the 5th country to have the vessel after the USA, France, Russia, and China.


It was jointly developed by the National Technical Research Organisation and the Defence Research and Development Organisation with the assistance of the Indian Navy.

It is one of the largest warships developed in an Indian Yard.

The Rs. 725 Cr worth ship has a displacement of 15,000 tonnes.


It will monitor missile launches at long distances.

It will keep an eye on telemetry data of Strategic Missile launched by India during trials.

It will also detect the missile tests and its success or failure of neighboring countries along with gathering electronic intelligence.

It will keep an Indian Ocean Region on surveillance.

The vessel is also equipped with a helicopter and along with 300 personnel of Indian NAVY, a Special team from NTRO will also be a part of the crew.

Maharashtra possesses highest number of millionaire households of the Nation


Note: Millionaire Household = having Household income more than Rs 10/Annum

According to the Hurun India report named Wealth report 2020, the state of Maharashtra possessed the highest Net-worth Individuals households with Fifty-Six Thousand US Dollars millionaire households. The list consists of Uttar Pradesh at the second, Tamil Nadu at the third, and Karnataka and Gujarat at the fourth and Fifth Spot respectively. Also, Maharashtra is the top performing state as far as Gross State Domestic Product is concerned with a growth rate of 13.16%.

About Overall status of India:

– India possesses total of 4.12 Lakh dollar millionaire households with a net worth of at least Rs. 7 Crore.

– More than 70% of millionaire households of the country are in the top 10 states in the list only.

City-wise status:

– Mumbai consists of the highest number of millionaire households, i.e., 16,933.

– Delhi (with 15861 millionaire households), Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai are behind the Economic Capital of the nation.

Fact: The report also publishes the happiness index. The 2020 Happiness Index is about 72%, 13% less than the previous year’s performance.




6th India – Brazil – South Africa (IBSA) Women’s Forum meeting was chaired by Smriti Irani


The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani has chaired the 6th edition of India – Brazil – South Africa (IBSA) Women’s Forum hosted virtually.

Two Indian Army Artillery Guns decommissioned


Indian Army decommissioned two of its longest serving artillery gun – 130mm Self Propelled M-46 Catapult Gun and the 160 mm Tampella Mortars.

Before the decommissioning ceremony, the guns were honored and last fired at Mahajan Field Firing Range.

About the guns:

1. Catapult:

The gun was developed by the DRDO after the 1965 war and 1971 war to cater the urgent need emerged

It was built by merging two existing outdated weapons, the Vijayanta Tank (an indigenous tank) and a 130 mm M-46 field gun (a Russian weapon).

The hybrid Self Propelled gun was inducted in the year 1981.

The veteran weapon possessed a range of 27 km.

2. Tampella Mortars:

It was imported from Israel as an aftermath of the Indo-China 1962 War.

It had a firing range of little less than 10 km.

A UN report asked for measures to protect Indigenous rights


The volume V of the State of the World’s Indigenous Peoples titled ‘Right to Lands, Territories, and Resources was released. The report was released by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The report examines the Right of Land of People in the context of development, industries, agriculture, conservation, and tourism.

It also analyses the wide practices and hurdles to realize the right to land and territories of the indigenous people.

Why protection of land and territory rights of the people is important?

– Because territories and lands of indigenous people are the most non-commercially used resources.

– Indigenous people face problems to get recognition for their rights.
