India’s 8 beaches with international blue flag certification and 3rd prize for pollution control in coastal regions
An international jury with the members- UN, WTO, UNEP, IUCN, and FEE has awarded the blue flag certification to 8 beaches of India in one attempt. The beaches across 5 states and 2 union territories are Ghoghla, Shivrajpur, Kasarkod and Padubidri, Rushi Konda, Kappad, Radhanagar, and Golden. India achieved defeat in only 2 years and has been included in the league of 50 “blue flag” countries.
India has received 3rd prize under the international best practices for its initiatives for pollution control in coastal regions. The projects, SICOM and MOEFCC started upon the program being under its ICZM project for the sustainable development of coastal regions and working towards achieving the eco-label.
Addressing BRICS ministerial summit to frame workplace safety mechanism
On October 10, the minister of state for labour and employment Shri Santosh Gangwar addresses BRICS in the BRICS ministerial to find sustainable solutions to maintain the balance between a labour and employer for the growth of the sector and labour welfare. He cited various schemes for social protection, securing employment, eliminating poverty, safe work environment, and healthy force.
Also, digitisation and technological advancement can help in simplifying the implementation of labour laws and compliance mechanism.
Bharatmala Pariyojana: Construction of 2921 km roads and awards to 322 projects of 12,413 km
Under Bharatmala Pariyojana, 322 projects of 12,413 km have been awarded, and further, there has been the construction of 2921 km.
Bharatmala Pariyojana is the program for optimising the efficiency of passenger and freight movements in the highways sector by bridging infrastructure gaps. Likewise, it has received the investment approval of an estimated outlay of Rs. 5, 35,000 crores from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The ministry has detailed the review of NHS network and has approved the phase 1 scheme of Bharatmala Pariyojana for the development of about 34,800 km.
Modi released coin of Rs 100 coin on the birth centenary celebrations of Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia
On 12th of October 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the commemorative coin of Rs 100 to celebrate the birth centenary of Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia through video conference.
Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia was a skilled administrator and decisive leader. She declined the offer of Atal Ji and Advani Ji to become the President of the Jana Sangh, but she preferred to serve the Jana Sangh as an activist. She had a vision of human empowerment and the prosperous, secure, and strong India.
Supercomputing infrastructure in India
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Director-General, Dr Hemant Darbari, C-DAC and Director of National Supercomputing Mission host institutes. MoU is to establish a supercomputing infrastructure in India.
C-DAC has established supercomputing medical system at IIT Kharagpur, IIT BHU, JNCASR Bangalore, and IISER Pune. The partnership will enhance India’s capability by empowering scientists with state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities.
Uttrakhand State Level Consultation Meet on STIP 2020
In the Uttarakhand, State Level Consultation Meet on the National Science Technology and Innovation Policy-2020 (STIP 2020), Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, has emphasised on promoting the indigenous and traditional technologies by supporting them with the new age innovations under the STIP 2020. the Dev Bhoomi Vigyan Samiti Uttrakhand organised the meeting through video conference on 11th October 2020.
The officials also represented their views to improve the Academic and Research institutions, human resource in States, and coordination and networking among laboratories and central and state universities.
“Tech for Tribals Initiative” to launch
TRIFED is in collaboration with IIT Kanpur and Chhattisgarh MFP Federation, and they are going to launch the “Tech for Tribals” initiative on 13th October 2020. TRIFED has also collaborated with MSME to provide skill upgrading of the Vandhan tribal beneficiaries. The training will be of 30 days program over 6 weeks with 120 sessions.
The training will be based on three elements- capacity building, engagement, and market linkages to lead the youth to the path of commercialisation.
