These guidelines will help education institutions to mitigate the COVID-19 impact on the system and children’s education. It will help schools to identify students who have migrated before the closure of schools and after the schools re-open.

Manipur celebrates Cherry Blossom Festival in Senapati District
The Chief Minister of Manipur Biren Singh has inaugurated the Cherry Blossom Festival virtually. The festival is mainly celebrated in the Mao region of Senapati District of Manipur, where the pink season starts after the festival. Similarly, the cherry blossoms are found in Sakura, Japan. The festival is being celebrated since 2017.

The flower is also found in the Meghalaya in the month of November and October. Similarly, east and west Khasi hills are also famous for the cherry blossoms.
Home Minister Amit Shah launched the ‘Single Window Clearance System’ for the coal sector
Coal mines are now to be equipped with a single-window clearance system. The system is expected to simplify the operations of the coal sector. The main objective of the system is to reduce the time taken for the grant approvals.
To start a coal mine, around 19 major approvals are needed, which is the main cause of delay. The unified system will channelize the approval and clearance system to reduce the need for new companies to start a coal mine. For boosting domestic production, coal reserves have been opened to private sectors.

The scorecard helps government to make policies for the welfare of society. Businessmen and investors refer to the scorecard to find out the potential areas in which investments can make more profit.
The scorecard is assessed on the basis of 160 indicators (from the year 2008 to 2019) of 90 economies.
A new species of fruit fly is found in Siruvani
‘Euphranta Siruvani’ is a new species discovered, named after a place situated in the Western Ghats of India. Siruvani is a town in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The study has been published in the journal ‘ZOOTAXA’. Siruvani is an ecological hotspot in the Western Ghats.
World Hindi Day celebrated on 10th January 2021
10th January is celebrated as ‘World Hindi Day’ or ‘Vishwa Hindi Diwas’. To represent Hindi as an international language, the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has declared 10th Jan 2021 as World Hindi Day.
The day is celebrated every year to commemorate the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur Maharashtra. The conference was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

- It is originated from the ancient language Sanskrit.
- The word Hindi comes from the Persian language word ‘Hind’ which denotes the land of the Indus River (India).

H-1B Visa norms are amended again
US Government has once again amended the H-1B Visa norms.
The changes are as follows:
1) Deserving candidates will be selected on the basis of their wages and skills.
2) Old system in which work visa selection was done on the basis of the lottery will not be followed now.
US to upset China on Taiwan Issue
The imposed restrictions on diplomatic contact with Taiwan has now been removed. But according to its One China Policy, China does not recognize the existence of Taiwan as a nation.
What is One China Policy?
One China policy refers to the understanding of the People’s Republic of China that there is only one China which includes Taiwan (Republic of China) and implies that Taiwan is a breakaway province of mainland China (People’s Republic of China).

In 1949, India accepted the ‘One China Policy’ provided China accepts ‘One India Policy’.
Industrial Disputes Bill, 2020 got the presidential nod
President Ramnath Kovind has given his nod for the Industrial Disputed Bill, 2002.
Advantages of the Bill
– Interests of workers are protected.
– Ease of Doing Business will increase.
According to the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947 a company that has 100 or more workers have to take permission from the state government before its closure.
1) Employee limit raised to 300.
2) 3 months before the closure, prior notice should be provided to state government and workers.
3) Last 3 months average payment as compensation.
