Second quarter records 107% rise in fresh investments

Double from the 350 new projects worth Rs 44714.6 crore from quarter 1, the second quarter has 618 new projects worth Rs 83,608.2. But these are lesser than the average investments of Rs 1.69 lakh crore and Rs 1.32 lakh crore quarterly.

Likewise, the manufacturing sector also noticed the growth.

 96% of the new projects came from private promoters. The largest private manufacturing investment is the solar cells and module project of a Vikram solar worth Rs 5423 crore in Tamilnadu.


Poor air quality likely to improve with the launching of war room

According to Central pollution control board data, air quality was poor on Thursday. according to system of air quality and weather forecasting and Research ( SAFAR), stubble burning fires arising in Punjab Haryana and other neighbouring border regions.

Environment minister Gopal Rai launched war room, equipped with the high-end Technology of three LCD screens, to track the efforts of controlling fumes real-time pollution, NASA-ISRO images of stubble burning, and dust levels in Delhi.


Dalit leader Ram Vilas Paswan in many a position

Ram Vilas Paswan is the socialist and the part of many a political position. He was also known as the weather vane of Indian politics as he has spent half a century in the profession. He has served 6 Prime ministers.

At the age of 22 years old, he was on the position of Deputy Superintendent of police in Bihar. Also, in the Lutyens power matrix, he was the participant and the spectator. Then, he was elected MLA in 1969. And he was elected to Lok Sabha 8 times in the 42 years.

Moreover, he also spent two years in jail. In 1989, he became the Minister to handle the labour portfolio in the VP Singh government. He was also appointed as a Railway Minister, Communications Minister, and Congress.



Louis Gluck: American poet wins Nobel literature prize

On 8th October, American poet Lewis Clark, 77, has been awarded 2020 Nobel literature prize. The themes were of childhood and family life. In the past decade, she is the fourth women winning the nobel literature prize. Her poems reflect the inspiration from classical motives and myths.

She also won the pulitzer prize in 1993 for the “Wild Iris” and the National Book award for “Faithful and Virtuous Night”, in 2014. Her works are marked by humorous elements, radical changes and wit.


Nobel peace prize 2020 to World Food Programme

World Food Program, the United Nations body and the world’s largest humanitarian organisation won the Nobel peace prize 2020 on 9th October. UN has been awarded the peace prize 12th time. It has fed myriad hungers and promoted food security from Yemen to North Korea.

It has helped 97 million people in 88 countries with 15 billion rations last year.

However, two-thirds of the human population are unaware of their means due to the conflict raised by the UN and aid agencies.


Physical distribution of property cards under the SVAMITVA scheme

On 11th October via video conferencing, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is going to launch the physical distribution of property cards under the SWAMITA scheme. It will target around 1 lakh property holders. The beneficiaries belong to 763 villages from 6 States- Uttar Pradesh-346, Haryana-221, Maharashtra-100, Uttrakhand-50, Madhya Pradesh-44, and Karnataka-2.

In this way villages can take loans or any other benefit financially through the property cards.



Collaboration of DST with IBM for STEM career opportunities for girls

The department of Science and Technology has collaborated with IBM to instil interests of girls in Science, Technology, engineering, and mathematics and raise opportunities along with making learning relevant.

The collaboration is to scale the level of two  DST initiatives called Engage with Science and Vigyan Jyoti.

The initiatives are to engage with schools through the programmes.


ECI shortens public notice time period for the registration of political parties

Election Commission of India has reduced the notice period for the parties published the public notices on 7 October. The days have been reduced from 30 to 7. The notice can be submitted latest by 5:30 p.m. on 10th October or after the exact days of 30.


Celebration of national postal week

India post has inaugurated the celebration of the national postal week from 9th October to 15th October 2020. The starting day is also the World Post Day and the anniversary of the universal postal Union.

It is to bring awareness about the role of the postal sector through different activities among the public and media nationally. Different activities have been planned at circle level and day wise.

The activities include cleaning of all mail offices, post offices, and administrative offices, and some others according to the days. The days come during the national postal week are World Post Day, Banking day, Postal Life insurance day, Philately day, business Development day, and Mail day.
