Deals scrapped by the Defence Ministry

Two deals that were being pursued under foreign procurement — carbines from UAE and Self-Propelled Air Defence Gun Missile System (SPAD-GMS) from South Korea would now be produced indigenously under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The deal worth USD 4 Billion has been scrapped by the Defence Ministry.

 

Ajit Doval’s walk out of SCO

A virtual meeting of national security advisers of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was organised on Tuesday. Ajit Doval, the National Security Adviser of India walked out of the meeting, where the Pakistani NSA deliberately projected a fictitious map with an inaccurate depiction of the borders of the two countries.


 


 

The Chandrayan-3 Configuration

The Moon landing mission by ISRO conceived after Chandrayaan-2 failed to soft-land a lander on the lunar surface last year. It’s been more than a year that Vikram had its unsuccessful soft-landing, the Department of Space (DoS) and ISRO have to still make public the complete conclusions of the Failure Analysis Committee (FAC), some of whose recommendations are now used to make improvements to the Chandrayaan-3 design.  Unlike Chandrayaan-2, which had an orbiter, a lander as well as a rover, Chandryaan-3 would only hold a lander and a rover together with a propulsion module that is going to hold fuel for the numerous manoeuvres necessary to transform the landing module once it has been deployed.

 

My Stamp on India’s First A-SAT

On 27th March 2019, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted an Anti-Satellite (A-SAT) missile test ‘Mission Shakti’ from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha under the direction of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Department of Posts on the occasion of Engineers Day today in the august presence of Shri AjitDoval, National Security Advisor (NSA) launched a Customized My Stamp on India’s First Anti Satellite Missile (A-SAT). The function was also attended by Shri Pradipta Kumar Bisoi, Secretary, Department of Posts and Senior Scientists of DRDO. The release of Stamp reminds the nation about the technological achievement, which has made the nation proud.

 

Statement of Intent signed between India and US

The 10th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) Group Meeting was held virtually on Tuesday. The aim of the DTTI Group is to bring sustained leadership focus to the bilateral defence trade relationship and create opportunities for co-production and co-development of defense equipment. Four joint working groups focused on land, naval, air and aircraft carrier technologies have been established under DTTI to promote mutually-agreed projects within their domains.

India and the United States on Tuesday signed a statement of intent to strengthen the bilateral dialogue on defence technology co-operation. The statement was signed by Raj Kumar, Secretary, Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, and Ellen Lord, US Under Secretary of Defence for Acquisition and Sustainment.
