Every SSB aspirant has this obvious question in mind, how to prepare for SSB? As soon as you get a call letter, what most candidates do is purchase books, opt for coaching classes, prepare notes and try to grasp maximum information from several sources. Some candidates even mug up answers for most-asked SSB interview questions. And what is the result? They are not recommended further.
Every SSB aspirant needs to understand that SSB is not normal college examination to give repeated answers, rather it is a thorough assessment of your personality. Your personality traits need to be changed and raised up to a level that’s worthy of being an Officer in Armed Forces.
10 practices you must start doing after getting the SSB call letter:
- Get to know all about SSB:
Practicing different tests of SSB must be started way before you receive the call letter. If you have not yet started that, it’s never too late. You need to know every test that’s executed during SSB interview like Screening, PPDT, TAT, SRT, Personal Interview, GTO tasks, SRT, SD, Conference, etc. Read about these tests, all of the do’s and don’ts as much as you can.
- Start to get fit:
Go for runs and start to do exercises that increase stamina. One cannot really get fit within just a few days, it takes time. So, start early. GTO and other physical tests will require a lot of strength and stamina to endure these long-lasting tests. Make sure you are apt for good performance.
- Are you updated with Current Affairs?
Collect all of the important national and international affairs. These will help you in Group discussions as well as Lecturette rounds. Read as much information on these topics as you can. If you lack in General Awareness, start reading newspapers daily and watch news.
- Do you know yourself?
Nothing is more annoying than answering all of the technical or GK questions, but being scorned about general questions about yourself or your life. Perform a deep analysis about yourself and your near ones. Know all about your positive and negative traits, achievements, hobbies, interests, etc. related to the OLQs. Remember, you should have basic info (general/technical) about your interests or hobbies. You should also know about your family, friends, things you like/dislike about them, etc.
- Get hold of that time:
Time yourself, just as done in SSB tests and see how you manage to complete the test. Psychological tests in SSB have a specific time constraint, so as to test how candidates perform under pressure. So, practice with a timer and train yourself to think fast. Also, practice story writing consistently, it will help you in screening as well as TAT rounds.
- Work on stage fear and communication skill:
Practice Lecturette and other tests that require you to speak publicly. Best way to do this is by speaking in front of a group of friends/family. You can even practice in front of mirror. If you are weak in English language, you can learn it through several ways like reading newspapers, watching English movies with captions or join spoken English classes (if it’s very poor).
- Gather info about Forces:
You ought to know basic and all of the significant info about the Armed Forces.
- Make a schedule, if you have to:
To practice all of the above-mentioned steps successfully, one needs to be persistently motivated and be sincere. It is better to make a strict schedule, including your weekends as well as weekdays and follow it sincerely.
